Manchester Township police responded to the crash at the intersection of Route 70 and County Route 571 at around 6:40 a.m. on Thursday, Apr. 18, the department said in a news release. Two Manchester Township High School students were on the bus during the crash.

Officers found a yellow 2015 Thomas school bus with extensive front-end damage and a green 2005 Honda Odyssey with extensive front passenger-side damage in County Route 571 North. The bus was facing north in the right lane and the minivan was facing north in the left lane.

Investigators said the bus was traveling north in the left lane of County Route 571 and the Honda was in the left southbound lane waiting to turn left onto Route 70 East. The Honda turned in front of the school bus, which crashed into the minivan's front passenger side.

A 54-year-old Whiting woman drove the school bus and suffered facial cuts. A 60-year-old Lakehurst woman was a school bus aide and she injured her hip.

One child on the bus had chest pain, while the other student was not injured. A 27-year-old Jackson Township man driving the Honda suffered hip and hand injuries.

The four people injured were brought to Community Medical Center in Toms River. Police said they were all listed in stable condition.

Ridgeway firefighters and Manchester Township paramedics also responded to the scene. Police were investigating but said failure to yield at the intersection appeared to be the main cause.

This was the fourth significant crash in Manchester and the third involving a County Route 571 intersection in less than a week. It was also the second involving children on their way to school in the morning.
